KINGS HILL CELLARS
Vineyards & Varietals:
Our goal is to offer our Members several different varietal selections each year, so that over time they can round out their wine cellars and experience a wide variety of winemaking. We source our grapes from meticulous local winegrowers who have a reputation for growing outstanding grapes that have made award-winning wines.
Available varietals will vary each year. Grapes must be contracted in advance and quantity is limited. Sign up is on a first come first serve basis. Members are welcome to assist in future varietal selection.
Cabernet Sauvignon :
Mountain View Ranch with its Northeastern exposure in mid-Dry Creek Valley is a source of arguably the finest Cabernet grapes in Sonoma County. Wineries such as Amphora have sourced from this vineyard to create a dense, plum-colored Cabernet Sauvignon with profound and sultry aromas of black cherry, blackberry and vanilla, with subtle hints of green olive on the palate.
Merlot:
Herbert's Vineyard , prime western hillside Dry Creek Valley fruit from meticulously maintained vineyards planted in 1990 with environmentally conscious practices. Usually a deep garnet in color, this Merlot typically displays dark plum and cherry flavors, with hints of spice. Grapes from this vineyard have been used in award-winning single-vineyard and reserve wines. Among wineries that have utilized the grapes are Charles Krug, Benziger, Sebastiani, and Kendall-Jackson.
Syrah:
Beagle Ridge Vineyard, comes from well drained, westward sloping hillside in the cool growing climate of the Bennet Valley. The grapes typically make a full-bodied wine with deep, dark reddish purple color and a long finish; it is usually characterized by berry aromas, with hints of leather, dark fruit and pepper.
Zinfandel:
We have two excellent vineyards both managed by Carmine Indindoli: From the Dry Creek Valley, we have Westside Road Vineyard's 80 year-old head-pruned zinfandel vines that yield low volumes of intense berry aromas - our best wine in 2006!
From the Sonoma Valley directly north of Sonoma’s town square on a south facing vineyard at 1000 ft elevation we have Sentinel Oak Vineyard, planted in 2001 and managed for maximum intensity with only one cluster per shoot. The Zinfandel wines made in 2004 and 2005 exhibited the classic full berry essence with a peppery after taste indicative of this classic varietal done well. They were full bodied with a round finish.
Pinot Noir :
From the same Sentinel Oak Vineyard above, we have lovely Dijon clone Pinot vines grown in the Burgundy style (3'x5" spacing with lots of leaf and fruit drop). The 2004 and 2005 were both big wine with lots of typical Pinot characterisics.
WhiteWine: We make each year a different white wine. If you are interested, contact us to see what wine we are making this year.
